Germany, Weimar Republic. A Dedicated Silver Cigarette Case, by Aleksander Skovronsky, c.1918
(Zigarettenetui). A unique commemorative cigarette case, constructed of silver, the exterior bearing a stylized monogram, skull and crossbones, and an Honour Cross of the Baltic Landwehr, all of separate construction, with an additional etching of a winged propeller underneath the latter, the interior with dual yellow elastic bands secured to the case with clips meeting integrated loops, with five visible rivets holding the exterior features in place, the interior lid with an etched inscription of “MEINER LIEBEN HERTA, WEIHNACHTEN 1918, VON N. KUSCHKE” (“MY DEAR HERTA, CHRISTMAS 1918, FROM N. KUSCHKE”), opening with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release and a functional hinge, stamped with a silver troinik mark of Aleksander Vladislavovich Skovronsky, with a silver mark of “84” for a content of 875 and the symbol of the city of Moscow, also double-stamped with “ЯК” for an unknown silversmith, measuring 63 mm (w) x 94 mm (l), weighing 129 grams, a unique and rare Russian cigarette case converted by a German serviceman, in near extremely fine condition.
