Germany, Weimar Republic. A Silesian Eagle, I Class, by Max Reich
(Schlesischer Adler I. Klasse). Constructed of silvered tombak with enamels, the obverse consisting of a Silesian-style German national eagle executed in black enamel with feathering highlighted in silver, clutching a banner bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR SCHLESIEN” (“FOR SILESIA”) in its talons, overlaid across the chest by a silvered crescent and cross, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “MAX REICH, BRESLAU”, measuring 31.13 mm (w) x 43.48 mm (h), weighing 13.3 grams, with two small chips visible to the eagle’s left wing in addition to sporadic flecking and moderate loss of silver finish, in near extremely fine condition.
