Germany, Weimar Republic. A Silesian Eagle, II Class, c. 1936
(Schlesischer Adler II. Klasse). Constructed of silvered tombak with enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, the obverse consisting of a Silesian-style German national eagle with feathering and details highlighted in silver, clutching a banner in its talons bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR SCHLESIEN” (“FOR SILESIA”), overlaid across its chest by a silvered Brustmond, unmarked, measuring 31.55 mm (w) x 46.14 mm (h), weighing 16.6 grams, demonstrating minor flecking and loss of finish to the enamels and base metals, a later-production (c. 1936) privately-purchased example in near extremely fine condition.
