In stamped brass, with face plate in silvered brass, 63mm x 47mm, depicting a small helmet with “Front Heil” above (lowercase), and oakleaves below; small helmet type is associated with early “Front Heil” buckles; (Illustrated on p.385 of Angolia’s book). Footnote: worn by the members of “Der Stahlhelm”, a largest post 1918 German Veterans organization, incorporating many smaller Freikorps organizations; well-armed, and can easily can be considered a para military organization. Most of the members joined SA and other Nazi organizations during 1930’s.
Footnote: From the collection of approximately 900 German buckles accumulated by John R. Angolia, who start collecting buckles, belts and brocades from 1944 until around 1990; most of the buckles were obtained from the American and German veterans; most of these buckles present a core of Angolia’s book “Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich”, published in 2001.
