Germany. An Army Long Service Medal Bar, by Wilhelm Welhausen
(Ordensschnalle). A medal bar featuring six Imperial and Third Reich decorations, including a 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 41.84 mm (w) x 46.34 mm (h), with oxidation evident throughout, in overall very fine condition; a Saxe-Meiningen Cross for War Merit, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing central monogram of Duke Bernhard, the reverse with a central Saxe-Meiningen coat of arms, set within a circular oak leaf wreath, the reverse of the wreath bearing an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE” (“FOR MERIT IN WAR”), topped by a crown suspension, unmarked, measuring 38.86 mm (w) x 57.52 mm (h) (inclusive of suspension), in better than very fine condition; an Anhalt Friedrich Cross, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing a central wreathed monogram of Duke Friedrich II, the six o’clock arm with an institution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the revere bearing a central inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE” (“FOR MERIT IN WAR”), unmarked, measuring 37.29 mm (w) x 42.12 mm (h), in very fine condition; a Wehrmacht 12-Year Long Service Medal, constructed of gilded magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon with Heer/Kriegsmarine device,, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a wreathed number “12”, unmarked, measuring 29.95 mm in diameter, in fair condition; a Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Medal, constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 30.07 mm in diameter, in fair condition, and; an Austro-Hungarian Military Merit Cross, constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, with its arms joined through the quadrants with a laurel wreath, the obverse with red and white enameled arms, with a central white enameled disc bearing a silvered inscription of “VERDIENST” (“MERIT”), the reverse with plain white enamels, unmarked, measuring 30.77 mm (w) x 38.46 mm (h), with some chipping of enamels evident, in overall better than very fine condition; all affixed to a 175 mm-long zink bar with a horizontal pinback and red wool reverse liner, retaining a maker’s label reading “WILHELM WELHAUSEN, HANNOVER”), in overall better than very fine condition.
