Germany, Third Reich. An Extensive Medal and Ribbon Bar Set
(Ordenschnalle). An extensive medal bar set, of Third Reich-period manufacture and featuring seven decorations, including a 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silvered frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 43.48 mm (w) x 47.60 mm (h); an Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse with central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, with crossed swords through the centrepiece, unmarked, measuring 37.18 mm (w) x 42.00 mm (h); an Austrian War Commemorative Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon with sword clasp, the obverse bearing a raised First Republic-style Austrian national eagle clutching a coat of arms, above an inscription of “FÜR ÖSTERREICH” (“FOR AUSTRIA”), the reverse bearing dates “1914-1918” within an oak leaf wreath, designer marked “GRIENAUER” for sculptor Edwin Grienauer, measuring 36.07 mm in diameter; a Prussian Long Service Medal, III Class for 9 Years, constructed of neusilber, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised crown, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE BEI DER FAHNE” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE FLAG”), the reverse bearing a raised number “9” in Roman numerals, unmarked, measuring 31.14 mm in diameter; an Ordnungspolizei Long Service Cross, I Class for 25 Years, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central raised Ordnungspolizei insignia in the form of an oval oak leaf wreath overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR TREUE DIENSTE IN DER POLIZEI” (“FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE POLICE”), unmarked, measuring 43.17 mm (w) x 46.51 mm (h); a German Olympic Decoration, constructed of magnetic metal, on lop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised Olympic column, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, topped by Olympic rings, flanked by a date of “1936”, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTVOLLE MITARBEIT BEI DEN OLYMPISCHEN SPIELEN 1936” (“FOR MERITORIOUS ASSISTANCE TO THE OLYMPIC GAMES OF 1936”), unmarked, measuring 37.08 mm in diameter, and; a Hungarian War Commemorative Medal, the obverse bearing a central raised Hungarian coat of arms, within an oak leaf wreath and on top of crossed swords, the reverse bearing raised dates “1914-1918”, topped by a Stahlhelm and an inscription of “PRO DEO ET PATRIA” (“FOR GOD AND COUNTRY”), unmarked, measuring 37.02 mm in diameter; all set on a 175 mm-long bar with a horizontal pinback and field-grey wool reverse liner, unmarked, the medals displaying minor, age-appropriate oxidation and tarnishing, in overall near extremely fine condition; accompanied by a ribbon bar featuring six decorations, including a 1914 Iron Cross, an Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918, a German Olympic Decoration, an Ordnungspolizei Long Service Cross, an Austrian War Commemorative Medal, and a Hungarian War Commemorative Medal, all set on a 90 mm-long bronze bar with a blue wool reverse liner and horizontal pinback, unmarked, with some fading evident, in overall better than very fine condition.
