Germany, Wehrmacht. A Medal Bar to a First and Second World War Serviceman

(Ordensschnalle). A medal bar to a First World War combatant with post-war Wehrmacht service and Finnish distinctions, indicating a possible veteran of the Baltic Sea Division of the Finnish Civil War, including:

1. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, without visible marks, measuring 42.83 mm (w) x 47.00 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

2. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed date of “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked with the logo of Noelle & Hueck, Lüdenscheid, measuring 37.18 mm (w) x 41.42 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

3. A Finnish Liberation War Medal 1918, constructed of patinated magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a Finnish lion rampant, the reverse bearing a raised Cross Pattée overlaid by a swastika, overlaid by a central rosette and flanked by arms wielding swords and a date of “1918”, unmarked, measuring 30.07 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.

4. A Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty, IV Class Cross, Military Division, constructed of blackened magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with combatant’s device, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse overlaid by a gilded swastika and bearing a central rosette, the reverse bearing a central raised date of “1918”, unmarked, measuring 37.77 mm (w) x 42.54 mm (h), demonstrating moderate loss of finish, in better than very fine condition.

A Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Award, constructed of magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribboned pinned with Luftwaffe device, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 29.97 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.

All suspended from a 145 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback and black wool liner, unmarked, in extremely fine condition.
