A First War Naval Group to Lieutenant Commander (Engineer) Fox

A First War Naval Group to Lieutenant Commander (Engineer) Fox - 1914-15 Star (ART. ENG. L.J. FOX, R.N.); British War Medal (ART. ENG L.J. FOX. R.N.); and Victory Medal (ART. ENG L.J. FOX. R.N.). Naming is officially impressed. Court-mounted, light contact, extremely fine. Also included is a duotang folder with his military biography and five black and white ship photographs.   Footnote: Louis John Fox was born on January 21, 1883 and achieved the rank of Artificer Engineer on August 1, 1913. He began his naval service with the Battleship H.M.S. Dominion, on September 13, 1913 and was with her when the First World War broke out, serving as part of the 3rd Battleship Squadron of the Grand Fleet, taking part in sweeps in the North Sea from 1914 until late 1916. On December 5, 1916, he began serving aboard the Battleship H.M.S. Collingwood, as part of the 4th Battleship Squadron of the Grand Fleet, remaining with her until the ceasing of hostilities. Post-War, Fox rose to the rank of Warrant Engineer. He was posted to the Sloop H.M.S. Wallflower, in Reserve on November 29, 1919, "in Engineering Charge" and while with her, became a Commissioned Engineer on August 1, 1923. One year later, he was posted to the Engineer-in-Chief's Department in the North England District "and for coal inspection duties", as of July 1, 1924. After thirty-two months, he was posted to the Minesweeper H.M.S. Albury, as part of the 1st Mine Sweeping Flotilla, "in Engineering Charge", on March 22, 1927, before attaining his final posting on December 28,1928 to the Destroyer H.M.S. Sirdar, as part of the 8th Flotilla in China, "in Engineering Charge", where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant (Engineer) on May 1, 1930. Fox retired in 1933 and was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander (Retired) on May 1, 1938. He was married to Elizabeth Mary Annie Fox and had a son, Jack Framington Fox. He died on January 12, 1950, at Gaswood Hall Nursing Home in Norfolk, at the age of 66
