A Gold Masonic Award to Brother R.E. Butler
Gold with embedded glass plates on both sides, weighing 61 grams inclusive of its ribbon and clasps, maker marked "R.S" and "SPENCER LONDON", marked "15" and ".625" (15K Gold), hallmarked with an anchor (made in Birmingham), date marked "t" (1918) and engraved "BRO: R.E. BUTLER, SERVED AS STEWARD TO THE R.M.B.I. 1943. R.M.I.G. 1944. R.M.I.B. 1945" on the edge, obverse illustrating a seated woman, her right arm around a standing girl at the left, her left hand resting upon a kneeling boy with a Bible under his left arm, the all-seeing eye with emanating rays above and dated "MDCCCXXX" (1830) below, reverse inscribed "HONORABLE TESTIMONIAL OF MASONIC CHARITY & BENEVOLENCE INSTITUTED BY H:R:H: AUG FRED: DUKE OF SUSSEX M:W: GRAND MASTER" with the Masonic square and compasses insignia below, 37.5 mm, original ribbon with six enamelled clasps (RMB INST. 1949, RMI GIRLS 1950, RMI BOYS 1952, RMB INST. 1953, RMI GIRLS 1954, RMI BOYS 1955), marked "SPENCER LONDON" on the hanger, with stickpin attachment, extremely fine.
