A Rifle Brigade DCM for 1918 Daylight Raid - Distinguished Conduct Medal (52067 L. CPL. W.H. BLAKE. RIF;BRIG:); British War and Victory Medals (4-7088 PTE. W.H. BLAKE. NORF. R.) and Defence Medal (Unnamed). The three named medals are officially impressed. Original ribbons, on suspension bar with swing bar pinback, extremely fine. Footnote: 52067 Lance Corporal W.H. Blake, Rifle Brigade, was posted to the 8th Battalion, London Regiment (Folkestone). He was cited for his DCM in the London Gazette of October 30, 1918, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During a daylight raid this N.C.O. evacuated the wounded under heavy fire with great coolness and judgment. After the action he went out into "No Man's Land" under artlllery and machine gun fire, almost as far as the enemy wire, and searched for wounded, eventually getting stretcher-bearers and bringing in seven men. He set a spelndid example of disregard of danger and untiring devotion to duty."
