(1749 L.A. PETT). Naming is officially impressed. Bright patina, light contact, very fine. He was also awarded a Military Medal, which is not included with the AGSM. Accompanied by copies of his Military Medal Citation and Records indicated he was a POW. Footnote: Corporal Leslie A. Pett, Union Defence Force (Unvoti Mounted Rifles) was awarded an immediate Military Medal for actions taken on June 8, 1942 at the Gazala Line, Western Desert (Libya), as cited in the London Gazette on December 19, 1946: "On 8th June 1942 Cpl. Pett was a member of an Infantry comapny of the U.M.R. attached to a column known as "Guycol" which was operating against the enemy in the area between Barrels 11 and 13 in the Gazala Line of the Western Desert. It was necessary for the operation to dislodge the enemy from a strongly held position and to do this the infantry had to put in a frontal attack. Cpl. Pett acted as 2 i/c to Lieut. Mayne in right half of the company and throughout the attack displayed outstanding qualities of dash and courage. He led his platoon with daring and a total disregard of personal safety and materially assisted in the great success of the operation which resulted in completely routing the enemy, the taking of the position and the recapturing of 460 prisoners and booty." Pett later became a Prisoner of War and was housed at Stalag Camp 344, Lamsdorf, Silesia.
