Max bidding example:

United Kingdom. Honours and Awards of the Old Contemptibles

Hardcover, maroon cloth cover, with dust jacket, entitled "Honours and Awards of the Old Contemptibles - The Officers and Men of the British Army and Navy Mentioned in Despatches 1914-1915", originally published by the Army and Navy Gazette in 1915, this edition published by Arms and Armour Press, Lionel Leventhal Limited of London in 1971, in association with J.B. Hayward and Son of London, reproduction and printed in Great Britain by Redwood Press Limited of Trowbridge and London, SBN 85368 074 4. As stated on the dust jacket: "The German aim of rushing through Belgium and France in one overwhelming flood was foiled by the gallantry of the Allies in August and September 1914. This detailed reference work lists the names of those honoured in 'The Contemptible Little Army' which fought at Mons, The Marne, The Aisne and Ypres, and also includes those of the Royal Navy, Royal Flying Corps, Royal Naval Air Service, the Indian Army and Colonial Forces. Compiled from official sources "Honours and Awards of the Old Contemptibles" lists, regiment by regiment, all honours and awards, mentioned in despatches and officers' promotions from August 1914 to June 1915. "Honours and Awards of the Old Contemptibles" is a companion volume to "South African War Honours and Awards" and is based on a virtually unobtainable publication of the Army and Navy Gazette in 1915. It is a source work of considerable value to military historians and especially to medal collectors." In regards to the fifty-nine recipients of the Victoria Cross, the circumstances for which the VC was awarded is described, along with the London Gazette announcement and its date of publication stated. It concludes with a two page Index. The book contains 68 pages of text only, printed in black ink, on an off-white paper stock, measuring 185 mm (w) x 252 mm (h) x 10 mm (d). It exhibits foxing on the top edges of the pages, however, the pages within remain pristine. Near extremely fine.
