A First & Second War Group to the Royal Artillery - British War Medal (2. LIEUT. J.S.O'NEILL.); Victory Medal (2. LIEUT. J.S. O'NEILL.); Defence Medal; and War Medal 1939-1945. Naming is officially impressed on the WWI medals, the WWII medals are unnamed. Court mounted, dark patina on the BWM, light contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Index Card (acknowledging his eligibility for the BWM and VM). Footnote: John Simpson O'Neill was born in Wortley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England in March 1895. During WWI, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery, Special Reserve on October 1, 1917, a month before leaving for the French theatre in November. He was later promoted to Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery on April 1, 1919. During WWII, O'Neill received a Regular Army Emergency Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on August 19, 1940 and was appointed a War Substantive Lieutenant on October 2, 1941. He is documented as still on Active Duty in 1946.
