R.F.A.); General Service Medal 1918-1962, George VI, 1 Clasp - PALESTINE (7877. W.O. CL. 2. W.T. CUBITT. R.A.S.C.); 1939-1945 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-1945 with MID Oak Leaf clasp; Coronation Medal 1937; and Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, REGULAR ARMY Bar (S-7877 S. SJT. W.T. CUBITT. R.A.S.C.). Naming is officially impressed on the GSM and ALSGCM, shaved and re-engraved on the BWM and VM, the other five medals are un-named. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons, dark patinas on the silver medals, light contact, very fine. Accompanied by a photograph when he was known as William T. Collins in a naval uniform, taken in front of the Royal Simcoe Hotel (black and white, gloss finish, 160 mm x 210 mm, in a home-made cardboard frame), along with a copy of the Second Supplement to the London Gazette 35396 of Friday, December 26, 1941, on Tuesday, on December 30, 1941, page 7349 (confirming his Mention in Despatches) and assorted research papers. Footnote: William Thomas Cubitt enlisted with the Royal Fleet Auxillary during the First World War as William Thomas Collins. When Second World War service beckoned, he enlisted as William Thomas Cubitt and began service as a Staff Quartermaster Sergeant. He served with the Emergency Commission, Royal Army Service Corps as Lieutenant (Quartermaster) as of May 29, 1940, War Substantive Captain (Quartermaster) as of May 29, 1943 and War Substantive Major & Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel (Quartermaster), as of November 21, 1945. 131132 Lieutenant (Quartermaster) W.T. Cubbitt is Mentioned in Despatches in the Second Supplement to the London Gazette 35396 of Friday, December 26, 1941, on Tuesday, on December 30, 1941, page 7349: "For gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East, February to July 1941". Post-war. he served in the Short Service Commission Royal Army Service Corps as a Captain as of 1946, as a Temporary Major as of March 1,1947 and as a Major as of May 29, 1953. He also served as Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport with the War Office, effective August 19, 1947. Cubitt retired on March 1, 1955.
