A Group of Five Awards to 2nd Lieutenant William McLeod RFA - 1914-15 Star (34174 Sjt W.G.M.McLEOD. R.F.A.); British War Medal (2. LIEUT. W.G.M. McLEOD.); Victory Medal (2. LIEUT. W.G.M. McLEOD.); Defence Medal; and War Medal 1939-1945. Naming is officially impressed on the WWI medals, the WWII medals are unnamed. Court mounted, pitting on the BWM, contact marks on all five, very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Index Card (acknowledging his eligibility for the WWI Trio) and two pages from the London Gazette. Footnote: William Gunn Mathieson McLeod was born on April 23, 1886 and served in the ranks for fourteen years and thirty-four days. He was a Sergeant (34174) in the Royal Field Artillery, attached to the Supply Transport Company, 2nd Cavalry Division and entered the French theatre in the first year of the war, on November 25, 1914. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Filed Artillery (May 27, 1918) and a Lieutenant (November 27, 1919; London Gazette 15555, December 12, 1919). Post-war, he was serving with the 24th Field Brigade at Jubbulpore, India and was transferred from Half-Pay to Retired Pay with Gratuity on May 3, 1921. He obtained the age of liability to recall and ceased to belong to the Reserve of Officers on June 23, 1936. Although a Retired Officer, he was Re-Employed and assigned to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (January 1, 1939), and later, appointed a War Substantive Major (January 21, 1942). In 1968, he was residing in Glasgow, Scotland as a Lieutenant-Colonel.
