What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

South Africa Medal, 1 Clasp - 1879 (G.H. COLE. S.B. ATTdt H.M.S. TENEDOS,); Khedive's Star (Unnamed); and Egypt Medal 1882-1889 (G.H. COLE, S.B. ATTdt, H.M.S. BRITON). Naming is officially engraved on the South Africa Medal and officially impressed on the Egypt Medal. Dark patina, original ribbons, on suspension bar, extremely fine. First time on the market. Accompanied by copies of his Service Records and rosters from H.M.S. Tenedos and H.M.S. Briton. Footnote: George Henry Cole was born on June 1, 1857 in Plymouth, Devonshire, England. He joined the Royal Navy on December 7, 1875, at the age of 18, signing on for ten years service. He began his naval career with H.M.S. Royal Adelaide, switching to H.M.S. Sealark by mid-December and stayed with her until March 1878. He returned to Royal Adelaide for three weeks before being transferred in succession to H.M.S. Tenedos, Active and Boadicea over the following year. He found himself again with Tenedos in May 1897 until December 1882, where he earned his South Africa Medal. He returned to Royal Adelaide in December 1882, transferring to H.M.S. Indus on April 1, 1883 and was there until February 2, 1884, then returned to Royal Adelaide for two days. February 5th saw him aboard H.M.S. Ganges for one month, then Royal Adelaide for another month. He was transferred to H.M.S. Briton on April 5, 1884 and was sent to the Egyptian theatre until June 15, 1886, earning him an Egypt Medal and Khedive's Star. Upon return to England, he spent two months with H.M.S. Mariner, then served the remaining six weeks of his naval service at Royal Adelaide. He was discharged from active service upon completion of ten years service with the Royal Navy.
