A Crimean War Distinguished Conduct Medal to the 13th Foot

A Crimean War Distinguished Conduct Medal to the 13th Foot - 1st Type obverse, Victoria. (P.O. CALLAGHAN HMs 13th Light Infantry). Naming is engraved in a combination of italic capitals and running script, inverted. Minor contact marks, bruised, very fine. Footnote: 1255 Sergeant Major Patrick Callaghan was with the 13th (1st Somersetshire) (Prince Albert's Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot. In 1854, the regiment was brought to full strength and by June 1855, landed in the Crimea as part of the Anglo-French forces conducting a campaign against Russian forces. They took part in the Siege of Sevastopol and remained in the area after the ceasing of hostilities in February 1856. He received the DCM for actions during the Crimean War. His medal was ordered from the Royal Mint on July 7, 1856, with a fifteen Pound Annuity given.
