Multi-piece construction, maker marked "WHH" (William Hair Haseler), marked with an anchor (made in Birmingham), the British lion, date marked "A" (1925) and engraved "PRESENTED BY THE LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK & HUMANE SOCIETY / TO JOHN RADCLIFFE DINGLE LANE COUNCIL SCH / FOR PROFICIENCY IN SWIMMING EXERCISES WITH THE OBJECT OF SAVING LIFE. / 21/10/25." on the reverse, measuring 31.7 mm (w) x 56.3 mm (h) inclusive of its ornate suspension, original ribbon suspended from a hanger with an ornately engraved floral design, the hanger with pinback, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, black pebbled exterior, inside lid lined in white satin, padded and marked "LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK & HUMANE SOCIETY / FOUNDED 1839 / INCORPORATED 1888" with the organization's insignia in gold-coloured ink, recessed medal bed in navy blue felt, measuring 75.7 mm (w) x 119 mm (h) x 24.7 mm (h), light soiling evident on the white satin lining of the inside lid and the blue felt medal bed, case near extremely fine.
