Footnote: Frederick James Wannell was born on May 10, 1859 in Devonport. He began service in the Royal Navy on September 26, 1882 with H.M.S. Indus. He later served with H.M.S. Thalia, Boadicea, Flora, Bordeus, Revenge, Amphion, Vivid II and III, Ocean, Lander and President. It was with H.M.S. President that he was to spend the war years, from December 22, 1914 to August 27, 1919. He joined the works of Maxim Vickers Limited for duty as an Assistant (indistinguishable).
