A ERII Staff Brigadier/Colonel's No. 1 Dress Visor Cap by Thomas & Stone, London
Black wool upper, classic high peak and rounded saddle-shaped sides, with a 45 mm wide red wool band around its circumference. The red band supports a 34 mm x 50 mm cap badge consisting of a lion in fine gold-coloured bullion wire, touches of red embroidery in the lion's crown and tongue, the lion itself standing upon a Queen's crown in gold-colored and silver bullion wire, maroon felt in the voided area of the crown, with touches of red, green and blue embroidery in the crown's base, the insignia on a black wool base, padded, giving it a three-dimensional look. The visor is vulcanfibre with one row of gold bullion oak leaves (gold braid, nicknamed "scrambled egg", referred to as an "oak leaf sprig"), a black patent leather chin strap with two sliders resting along the top edge and held in position via silvered buttons bearing the ERII cypher on both sides. The underside of the visor is synthetic and finished in green. The dark tan sweatband is leather, emboss stamped "Real Roam Leather" on the left side and named in black handwritten ink "FORBES" on the right side, with the two ends sewn together with a white ribbon, in bow-tie fashion. The dome itself has a brown celluloid liner, with the "THOMAS & STONE HAT AND CAP MAKERS, 108, JERMYN STEET, St JAMES'S, LONDON S.W.1." label affixed to the dome and visible through the liner. Overall, the cap measures 245 mm x 285 mm x 115 mm in height, with scattered signs of mothing on the red wool band, light crazing in the black patent leather chin strap, light discolouration in the bullion on the cap badge insignia and oak leaves on the visor. Near extremely fine. (C:14)
