A WWI Royal Artillery Officer's Peaked Service Cap

A WWI Royal Artillery Officer's Peaked Service Cap - This dress cap is fabricated from a khaki twill, with two narrow brown leather straps with loops creating the chin strap, of adjustable length resting upon the visor, slotted at the ends, secured on both sides by original bronze buttons with the Royal Artillery insignia. Immediately above the buttons on both sides are two reinforced ventilation holes with metal eyelets. The front has a bronze Royal Artillery cap badge affixed by three prongs. Large flat visor incorporating a thick stiffener, both sides of the visor covered with the same khaki twill as the exterior of the cap. Inside, the cap has a 50 mm wide light brown leather sweatband, the two ends bow-tied together at the rear with a white ribbon. Synthetic forest green moisture shield lining in the dome, with the maker's label sewn in the centre on the underside and partially visible thanks to a small tear in the fabric. It measures 250 mm x 250 mm x 75 mm overall. Although the exterior has scattered spotting, the top having dipped inward, the stiffener in the visor has a full divisive crack across its width, causing a dipping in the visor, the leather sweatband exhibiting moderate soiling and light wear, with two tears and hardening of the fabric of the moisture shield, it continues to maintain its original period look, near very fine.
