1880's King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) Officer's Pill Box Cap - Exterior in black wool with a 39 mm scarlet red wool band running around the circumference, brown and black cord wrapped toorie on top placed in the centre of a eight loop embroidered design, gilt and silver and bullion wire lion insignia on the front, the pupils of its eyes in red, the whites of its eyes in amber, red embroidered highlights at the bottom of both eyes and in its mouth, the lion above a gilt and silver bullion rose, the petals in maroon felt with five embroidered rays emanating from the centre in yellow, patent leather peak with the front portion covered in gilt silver bullion wire. Rose-coloured fabric interior, stamped in gold-coloured ink with the cypher of Victoria Regina above the "EATER & Co / 56, / PALL MALL / LONDON" maker mark, the sweatband and underside of the peak in light brown leather, with in-and-out reinforcing cord stitching on the exposed edge and sewn together at the ends where they meet at the rear of the cap, named on the right side to "NANCE" but some of the naming has faded with time, measuring 160 mm x 220 mm x 120 mm in height. Exterior exhibits light staining and scattered mothing, gilt loss on the bullion wire insignias, wear evident on the patent leather on the peak, interior lining and sweatband is soiled with scattered traces of dried mold, the sweatband having experienced separation from the cap on the left side from active use.
