What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

United Kingdom. An Edward VII Basket-Hilted Sword, by Fraser, Ross & Co.

A very well-preserved Edward VII basket-hilted sword, measuring 1050 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features an 845 mm-long magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and with dual narrow fullers running the length of each side. Both the obverse and reverse of the blade feature light acid-etched designs consisting of Scottish thistles interwoven with arabesques, royal crowns, and with one side featuring the monogram of King Edward VII. One side of the ricasso also features a maker’s mark of “FRASER, ROSS & CO. LTD, 72 INGRAM ST., GLASGOW”, while the reverse features a circular bronze insert bearing a scripture citation of “PROV 5” (“But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword”), within an acid-etched Star of David set directly onto the blade. It sits securely within a one-piece magnetic metal basket hilt, featuring designs of stylized swords interspersed with irregular shapes. The basket retains a liner constructed of smooth, padded red wool, trimmed along the exterior edge with the remnants of blue piping. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of pebbled and ribbed rayskin, with the ribbing retaining an original twisted and silver aluminum wire cord. Completing the sword is a rounded pommel stud. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a boiled blackened leather shaft. Magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat. Minor issues consistent with age are evident, and include slight oxidation and loss of finish to the metal features, wear of the basket liner, and some fatigue and loss of colour to the scabbard shaft. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.

An additional shipping charge may be applicable following the time of purchase due to size, weight, and quantity. Please note that swords cannot be shipped via Canada Post Flat Tracked method.
