Most Honourable Order of the British Empire, Officer (in silver gilt, measuring 22 mm (w) x 28.5 mm (h)); 1914-15 Star (in bronze, measuring 21 mm (w) x 25.5 mm (h)); British War Medal (in silver, measuring 17.7 mm in diameter); Victory Medal with MID Oak Leaf (in bronze, measuring 17.5 mm in diameter); France, Third Republic: Order of the Legion of Honour, Knight (Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur, Chevalier) (in silver with blue, white, red and green enamels, measuring 22.5 mm (w) x 32.5 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath and laterally-pierced ball suspension); and France, Third Republic: War Cross (Croix de Guerre) 1914-1918 (in bronze, measuring 17 mm (w) x 17.2 mm (h)). Court-mounted with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, "Spink & Son Ltd." embroidered label on the reverse, intact enamels, very light contact, traces of gilt remains on the OBE, original ribbons, near extremely fine. Accompanied by photocopies of pages from the London Gazette and other publications confirming his promotions and awards.

 

Footnote: John Percy Claude Sewell was with the Royal Flying Corps Special Reserve of Officers, documented as having been in the rank of Second Lieutenant and to be Temporary Captain on February 12, 1916: was a Second Lieutenant (Temporary Captain) to be First Lieutenant on September 1, 1916; and to be Temporary Major on April 1, 1918. As a Squadron Leader in the now named Royal Air Force, he was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour, Knight on April 5, 1919; awarded the Most Honourable Order of the British Empire, Officer on June 3, 1919; appointed Air Attaché in September 25, 1919; and granted a short service commission on December 5, 1919.
