A Collection of Sir Douglas Haig’s Maps of the British Most Important Military Actions of the First War
This is a collection of Sir Douglas Haig’s maps of the ten British most important military actions of the first war between December 1915 and April 1919. The collection is titled “Sir Douglas Haig’s Despatches - Maps”, published by J.M. Dent & Sons in 1919. It was “authored” by Sir Douglas Haig and edited by Lieutenant Colonel J. H. Boraston. The maps included here are from: The Battle of the Somme (1916), The German Retreat to the Hindenburg Line (Winter, 1916-1917), The Battle of Arras (Spring, 1917), The Third Battle of Ypres (Summer to Autumn, 1917), The Battle of Cambrai (November to December, 1917), The German Offensive on the Somme (March, 1918), The German Offensive on the Lys (April, 1918), The Final British Offensive (August-November, 1918), The Allied Advance (1918), and The British Advance to the Rhine. The collection of maps is housed in a sleeve constructed of cardstock with a textured red exterior liner. Each map is coloured and contains a legend to simplify the reading process; some maps depict light fraying along the edges, but overall this is a very fine collection in extremely fine condition.
