A First War Full-Length Control Column of a Sopwith Camel Biplane
This is a first war British “Joy Stick” of a Sopwith Camel biplane, consisting of a wrapped inverted spade-shaped grip, attached to an aluminum column via two nuts with bolts. Within the grip section are two spoon-shaped levers to activate its two synchronized 0.303 inch Vickers machine guns. The tube is hollow, allowing the steel wires from the triggers to pass to the synchronization gear of the machine gun. The grips exhibit clear and obvious period wear patterns, as do the trigger points. Extremely scarce. (C:45)
