A Large British Army “Bydand” Gordon Highlanders Infantry Regiment Officer’s Brooch
A large brooch belong to an Officer of the British Army’s “Bydand” Gordon Highlanders Infantry Regiment; constructed of sterling silver; the obverse depicting the head of a deer in the centre with very large antlers, the royal crown, and an oval-shaped laurel wreath with a ribbon on the bottom inscribed “Bydand”, with a large external disk on the outside; the reverse is mostly plain, with a horizontal pinback, three retaining screws (complete with fastening nuts), with a a nut missing on one of the antlers, and the entire screw post and nut missing on the other antler; hallmarked “J.W & S” for “James Woods & Sons, along with a fouled anchor and lion for “Birmingham”, dated approximately 1915; measuring 97 mm in diameter; near extremely fine condition.
