Great Britain; Silver, marked with the City of Chester import/assay mark, along with two other worn marks on the reverse of the bowl, one of which may be a monarch's head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the other a date mark (possibly a "P" for 1853), the handle illustrating the Duke of Wellington standing upon a pedestal inscribed "Wellington" in running script, the pedestal above a bird framed by two serpents, with other ornate icons below, multiple voided areas in the handle, a cherub sitting at the top of the bowl and flanked by ornate leafing, intricate detail throughout, measuring 74 mm in width across the bowl x 242 mm in length, light contact and tarnishing, better than very fine.

His defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 put him in the first rank of Britain's military heroes.
