In its hardshelled case of issue, inscribed "NATIONAL SERVICE MEDAL" on the lid, inside lid marked with the The Royal British Legion insignia, recessed medal bed, case also near mint.Footnote: Between January 1939 when the National Service Act was passed, and December 1960 when it was repealed, some 5,300,000 young people were conscripted into the armed services.
