An exceptional and large Georgian breast star that represents the transition between sew-on and pin-on stars, composed of a hinged body which provided the recipient with the necessary articulation during wear, in well detailed hand finished silver with eight individual hinged rays, each with a small Gold eyelet for sewing at each point, obverse centre with fine red enamel St.George cross set in Gold frame with exquisitely hand crafted garter surround consisting of Gold motto Honi soit qui mal y pense (Shame on him who thinks ill of it) with blue enamel backing, reverse centre presenting the hand engraved makers cartouche of Richd Davies, Jeweller to the Royal Family, N.36 Sackville St., reverse represents a fascinating transition award with unusual Gold pin fitmets, this pin assembly thus provided the recipient with the option of pinning to garment or sewing, measuring 108 mm (w) x 122 mm (h), with 6 o'clock hinged arm slightly forward, period supports and repair to 10 o'clock ray tip, otherwise an superb Napoleonic period star, better than extremely fine.
