United Kingdom. A Silver Order of the Garter Box 1851
In silver, repeating design pattern of large bulb-like waves alternating with four narrow waves, the design incorporated on all six sides of the box, oval insignia engraved in the centre of the lid, the insignia bearing a cross and surrounded by the inscription "SACACITER FIDELITER CONSTANTER", the insignia bearing a harp in the upper left quadrant, with an icon suspended from it illustrating St. George slaying the Dragon, the insignia surmounted by a crown with seven points, hallmarked with the British lion in three locations: on the inside lid, the inside base and on the reverse, maker marked "J.I" and date marked "Q" (1851) in two locations: on the inside lid and in the inside base, along with being marked with a leopard's head (made in London) and monarch marked with the bust of Queen Victoria on the inside base, measuring 86.2 mm (w) x 57.2 mm (h) x 39.5 mm (h), edge nicks, very light contact, better than very fine.
