A Seven Bar QSA to the 12th Lancers  - RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY, PAARDEBERG, DRIEFONTEIN, JOHANNESBURG, DIAMOND HILL, WITTEBERGEN, SOUTH AFRICA 1901 (3864 Pte A. HOWELL, 12: R. LANCERS). Naming is officially impressed. Very crisp detail, cleaned, light contact, bruised, better than very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records, two Rolls of Individuals entitled to the QSA and Clasps (one for the six campaign clasps, the other for the SA 1901 clasp) and research papers. Footnote: Albert Henry Howell was born in 1876 in Maryleborne, London, Middlesex, the son of Albert Joseph Howell of London. He signed his Attestation Paper on August 21, 1894 at London with the 12th (Prince of Wales's Royal) Lancers, at the age of 18 years, 6 months, stating that he had previous military service with the 3rd Royal Fusiliers, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Pianoforte Maker. He joined his unit three days later on the 24th in Edinburgh, Scotland, serving for 5 years and 62 days at home, from August 21, 1894 to October 21, 1899, before being sent for service in the Boer War in the South African theatre, from October 22, 1899 to October 11, 1901, a total of 1 year and 355 days. He returned home to fulfill the remainder of his military service, on October 12, 1901, later transferring to the Army Reserve on October 31, 1902, until August 20, 1906, a total of 4 years and 293 days post-war home service. Howell was discharged on August 20, 1906 having finished his required twelve years' service.
