Footnote: John S. McLeod was the son of William and Margaret McLeod of Gusetbog, Marnoch, Banff. He enlisted as a Private (970) and was serving with the 1st Regiment, 6th Battalion Gordon Highlanders when he died on November 13, 1916, at the age of 22. He is buried at Mailly Wood Cemetery, Mailly-Maillet in Somme, France, Grave Reference: I. F. 19. He was posthumously awarded the 1914 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, the latter two awards having been lost to time.
