WWI 1914/15 to L/Cpl Caston - 6th London Reg. - (2069. L-CPL. E.G.F. CASTON, 6-LOND. R.). Naming is officially impressed. Cleaned, original ribbon, better than extremely fine. Accompanied by copies of his Index Card (acknowledging his eligibility for the 1914-15 Star, BWM and VM) and three pages from the London Gazette. Footnote: Ernest George Frederick Caston was born in Brockley, Surrey, England in 1892, the son of Alexandra Beatrice Caston. He was working as a clerk for a contractor in 1911 at the age of 19, living with his mother in Streatham SW and served with the 6th (City of London) Battalion, the London Regiment (2069 and later, 320482). During WWI, he entered the French theatre on March 18, 1915 and was commissioned from an Officer Cadet Unit as a 2nd Lieutenant, 1st London, Royal Garrison Artillery on September 16, 1917 (London Gazette 10259, October 4, 1917). Post-war, he was promoted to Lieutenant in the 1st London RGA on March 16, 1919 (London Gazette 5908, May 12, 1919). He married Muriel G.T. La Croix at Wandsworth, Surrey in 1923 and from 1933 to at least 1960, he resided in Carshalton, Sutton. During WWII, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant (136763) with the Somerset Light Infantry on June 27, 1940 (London Gazette 4419, July 19, 1940) and appointed Temporary Captain on November 3rd. He was released from Active Service prior to August 1946. Caston also had a brother, William Percival Caston, who was three years his junior and served as a Private in the King's Own South Wales Borderers. The younger Caston entered the French theatre on July 10, 1915 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers on January 29, 1918. Ernest George Frederick Caston was also awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal as a Lieutenant, which are not included here.
