A Queen's South Africa Medal to Private Charles Connon - Ghosted dates version, 2 Clasps - BELFAST, LAING'S NEK (13763. Pte C. CONNON. A.S.C.). Naming is officially engraved in italic capitals. Extremely fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records and Medal Rolls (entitling Connon to four clasps, two for the QSA and two for the KSA). Footnote: Charles Connon was born in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland in either 1876 of 1877. He signed his Attestation Paper on January 26, 1898, at Aldershot, officially enlisting with the Army Service Corps on February 1st, at the age of 22, naming his two next-of-kin as his father, Charles Connon of Auchnagatt, Scotland and his brother, who was also in the Army Service Corps, Thomas Connon, stating that he had no previous military service and that his trade was that of Baker. Eight months later, Connon left the United Kingdom for service in South Africa during the Boer War. He is credited with having served overseas for almost three years in the South African theatre, from September 30, 1899 to September 22, 1902. For his service in South Africa, he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with two clasps: Belfast and Laing's Nek, along with the King's South Africa Medal with two clasps: South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, the latter medal with its clasps having been lost to time. Once back in the United Kingdom, he continued to serve in the Army Service Corps on the home front. After almost six years, he was transferred to the Army Reserve on June 27, 1908 and was discharged from service on January 25, 1910.
