United Kingdom. A Military Medal to the 152 Indian Parachute Battalion for Burma Action June 1944

George VI (P511 L/NK SULEMAN KHAN IND, PARA, REGT); 1939-1945 Star; Burma Star; and War Medal 1939-1945. Un-mounted, naming on the MM is crudely engraved in large capitals. Light contact and pitting, along with edge nicks on the MM, original ribbons, the MM with a pinback, better than very fine. Accompanied by a copy of his citation for the Military Medal.

Footnote: P511 Lance-Naik Suleman Khan, 3rd Battalion, 9th Jat Regiment was transferred to 152 Indian Parachute Battalion, and was in action in Burma on June 24, 1944, which would see him recommended by Lieutenant-Colonel R. Steward, 152 Indian Parachute Battalion, for the Military Medal for his conspicuous gallantry in action, his citation stating: "L/Nk was 2nd in command of a section of 6 Pl B Coy. which assaulted and captured the bastion position on 11th June 1944. This N.C.O.'s Platoon attacked the position from the left flank. They immediately came under intense and accurate LNC, Rifle and grenade fire but continued to assault the position with the utmost vigour. As the leading section approached the first line of trenches and enemy MMG opened fire from the extreme left of the position. L/Nk Suleman Khan without waiting for any orders, immediately charged the gun position and personally killed the crew by the use of a hand grenade and at the point of the bayonet. The prompt and courageous action of this N.C.O. undoubtedly enabled the section to continue their advance and saved them from sustaining severe casualties. Throughout the action this N.C.O. conducted himself most gallantly and proved that he appreciated the extreme danger of the then unlocated MMG post and his immediate courageous action was an inspiration to his section." P511 Lance-Naik Suleman Khan, 3rd Battalion, 9th Jat Regiment (152 Indian Parachute Battalion) was awarded the Military Medal, the announcement appearing in the Supplement to the London Gazette 36730 of Tuesday, October 5, 1944, on Thursday, October 5, 1944, page 4571.
