Footnote: William Gerrie was born on December 8, 1879 in Scotland. He enlisted on April 18, 1901 at Heidelberg, naming his next-of-kin as his father, stating that he was Single and that his trade was that of Farmer. Gerrie was a 3rd Class Trooper with the South African Constabulary and had served for 1 year and 345 days when he purchased his discharge on March 10, 1905, his character noted as "Very Good" (Information from Ancestors South Africa).
