Footnote: In January 1854, with war brewing in the Black Sea, the 62nd (Wiltshire) Regiment of Foot put on notice for service in Crimea. The regiment saw action in the Crimean War as part of the Second Division. The regiment participated in the Siege of Sevastopol in the winter of 1854. On September 8, 1855, the regiment was among the battalions which took part in the failed assault of the Redan bastion. Once again, the regiment suffered heavy casualties, including half of its officers and senior non-commissioned officers.
