United Kingdom. Honour to the Airborne, Part 1 1939-48, Second Revised Edition

Hardcover, with dust jacket, entitled "Honour to the Airborne, Part 1 1939-48" by David Buxton, copyrighted by the author in 1985 and 1993, first published by Elmdon Publishing of Solihull, West Midlands, Great Britain in 1985, second revised edition published by Liverpool Medal Company of Bury, Lancaster in 1993, ISBN 1 899422 00 5. As stated on the dust jacket: "First published in 1985, this reference work was the first definitive study of honours and awards to British Airborne forces, covering the period 1939-48. It was sectionalised, each covering a campaign, with the decorations shown - the approximate split being - Parachute Regiment (760); Glider Pilot Regiment (120); Airborne Infantry (130) and Airborne Support units (220) - thus over 1200 awards from a Mention in Despatches to a Victoria Cross. In the Airborne Forces Journal "Pegasus" it was reviewed by the Curator of their Museum as: "A must for the historians and collectors of airborne history and awards. Neatly laid out by sections it gives the regimental number, rank and names of recipients of the awards under the heading of the theatre or individual operation. Citations for the awards of the Victoria Cross are included. An order of battle for all the airborne divisions is shown, together with an outline history of all the units, (including the supporting Arms and Services), together with a list of Commanding Officers highlights this initial work. Now the work is available again in a new revamped style, which includes additional information regarding Awards gained, (an example of which is the Parachute Battalion identified against recipient); a brief but informative narrative of events; and an Index of recipients." It begins with a Foreword (dated 1985), followed by a Foreword to the 2nd Edition (dated 1993), a List of Abbreviations, Awards and Service Medals and an Introduction. The book is divided in fourteen sections: 1 - The Early Beginnings 1940-42 (with two appendices); 2- Hot Baptism of the Red Devils (with four appendices); 3 - Airborne Attack - Sicily 1943 (with four appendices); 4 - Buongiorno! Italy 1943 (with one appendix); 5 - United KIngdom Honours to Airborne 1944; 6 - A Cockerel Liberated - France 1944 (with two appendices); 7 - Battle of the Bridges - Arnhem 1944 (with three appendices); 8 - From Italian Sunset to Grecian Twilight (with four appendices); 9 - From Snow to Water - 6th Abn. Div. (with two appendices); 10 - An Icy Welcome - 1st Abn. Div. in Norway (with one appendix); 11 - To the East - 5th Para. Bde. in Java (with two appendices); 12 - Black Poppies - 6th Abn. Div. in Palestine (with one appendix); 13 - Unit Histories & Insignia of the Abn. Elements (with four appendices); 14 - Select Bibliography - recommended books on the Airborne to be read in conjunction with this reference work. The book contains 258 pages of text only, printed in black ink, on a white semi-gloss paper stock, measuring 160 mm (w) x 240 mm (h) x 22 mm (d). Near extremely fine.
