This book is best described as a general reference guide for collectors of the various orders and decorations of the world, through the use of descriptive text and multiple photographs, featuring many of the prominent and well-known awards, even touching on some of the lesser known awards. Also, pins, badges and ribbons are explored, the book accented with key figures and historical events through the use of descriptive narratives and illustrations. It is divided into eleven sections under the headings: The Origin of Medals; British Campaign Medals; Other Campaign Medals; Gallantry Awards; Other Military Medals; Orders of Chivalry; Civil Decorations; Commemorative Medals; Pins and Badges; Medal Ribbons and Embellishments; Collecting Medals and Decorations; and concludes with a two page Index. It gives the would-be collector a good overview, as to what to collect, how to house the collection, along with the proper care of the pieces. The book contains 128 pages, printed in black ink, on a thick off-white paper stock, with four colour plates, two inserted between pages 48-49, the other two between pages 64-65, both printed in full colour on a bright white paper stock, measuring 207 mm (w) x 265 mm (h) x 17 mm (d). There is a personalized and dated inscription on the free end paper at the front, the dust jacket with sunning evident on the spine, along with creasing on the left panel where it wraps around to the inside of the book, however, the pages and cover of the book remain pristine.
