Greece, Kingdom. An Order of the Redeemer, Officer in Gold
(Διάταγμα του Λυτρωτή). Instituted in 1829. Type II (1863-). In Gold, a white Maltese cross with sections of green enamelled laurel and oak wreath in each quadrant, the obverse medallion presents an image of Jesus surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed “Η ΔΕΞΙΑ ΣΟΥ ΧΕΙΡ ΚΥΡΙΕ ΔΕΔΟΞΑΣΤΑΙ ΕΝ ΙΣΧΥΙ” (THY RIGHT HAND, O LORD, IS MAJESTIC IN STRENGTH), the reverse medallion presents a white enamel cross on a blue enamel field, surrounded by the inscription “Η ΕΝ ΑΡΓΕΙ ΔΕΘΝΙΚΗ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩN ΕΥΝEΛΕΥΣΙΣ ΑΩΚΟ” (THE FOURTH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF THE HELLENES AT ARGOS 1829), the cross is surmounted by a crown, worn on original blue and white silk ribbon with large rosette, measures 35mm (w) x 56mm (h – inclusive of integral cross on surmounting crown), weighs 18.7 grams (including ribbon), light wear to enamels, ribbon worn and fraying, in extremely fine condition.
