Hungary, Kingdom. A Decoration of the Hungarian Red Cross, Merit Cross with Case
Constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Ruppert-style cross with the tip of each arm completing in a scalloped edge, joined together through the quadrants by pebbled sun rays, the obverse bearing a central white enameled shield overlaid by red enameled Geneva Cross, topped by a Crown of St. Stephen, the obverse bearing a central engraved inscription of “CRUX RUBRA HUNGARICA” (“HUNGARIAN RED CROSS”), flanked by a date of “1922”, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, unmarked, measuring 47.38 mm (w) x 47.34 mm (h), weighing 21.7 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt Crown of St. Stephen, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a depressed white velvet medal bed, closing with a non-functional spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 74 mm (w) x 74 mm (l) x 22 mm (h), the decoration demonstrating minor flecking of enamels and loss of gilt finish, in overall extremely fine condition.
