A Second War Italian Fascist 124 Division Army Side Cap
Italy (Kingdom); The exterior is fabricated from a coarse grayish-green wool, the rear and sides with a fold down flap that had two tabs, which is lined in light green rayon on the underside, when raised are joined together on the top of the cap at the ends of tabs via two snap closures. The front has an independent two-piece fold down panel with a reinforced stiffener, both sides of each panel in grayish-green wool, and when raised are joined by two snap closures, the right panel bearing a fasces in silvered and gold-coloured bullion wire above "124" in silvered bullion wire, on a black wool field, sewn in place on the front, and when lowered is joined by two other snap closures in order to form a visor. There are three gold-coloured bullion stars placed on a bluish-gray wool base, sewn in place on the left side. The interior is lined in a moss green rayon, marked with a "5" in red marker on the left side. It has a 43 mm wide leather sweatband sewn in place via black threading, the upper of which is finished in gray, the underside is raw, the ends of which are joined together by black threading and finished with a white bow-tied ribbon. The cap measures 130 mm x 270 mm, exhibiting light soiling, near extremely fine. (C:183)
