Italy, Kingdom. A 74th Division, Fascist Black Shirts Youth "GIL" Cap

(Gioventu Italiano Del Littorio). The exterior is fabricated from black wool, designed with a raised continuous flap that runs around the circumference of the cap that incorporates an embroidered trim along its upper edge. The flap is secured in place via black threading to the side walls of the cap, with a singular large rising peak flanked by smaller rising peaks on either side that form a valley between each of the peaks. Sewn in place to the body of the cap is an embroidered cord that travels from the front right to its rear, then finishes on the top near the front. It is knotted twice on the right side, once at the rear and is finished with a large embroidered netted ball bearing a large multi-fringed tassel. The front is adorned with two badges: (i) a 29 mm (w) x 54.5 mm (h) Fascist Black Shirts Youth "GIL" (Gioventu Italiano Del Littorio) badge in silvered and gold-coloured bullion wire in various textures, that incorporates five gold-coloured sequins, above (ii) a 24.5 mm in diameter divisional identification bearing the number "74" within a two-border ring, both of which are in gold-coloured bullion wire in various textures, the "74" backed by a very rich black felt; both badges with a single piece of black wool behind them. The interior has a 45 mm wide dark brown leather sweatband, retailer marked "F. Rossi BUSSETO" on the right side and Austrian manufacturer marked "W. Darnodel Co, Wien." on the left side, the dome lined in black cotton. The cap measures 270 mm in length x 130 mm in height, exhibiting soiling on both the exterior and interior, the GIL insignia with fraying in the bullion, along with wear and discoloration present.
