An Italian Regia Marina Light Cruiser Muzio Attendol Medal
(Italian Royal Navy) : Bronze, obverse illustrating the bow of the light cruiser Muzio Attendol surmounted by a crown, inscribed in Latin "R I MVZIO ATTENDOLO" above and "CONSTANS ET INDOMITVS" below, fasces on either side, inside a full leafed wreath, reverse illustrating knight's helmet, with a shield below bearing a lion, surrounded by ornate feathering, inside a full leafed wreath, 30 mm, ring suspension, very light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote: Muzio Attendolo was a Condottieri-class light cruiser of the Italian Regia Marina. She served in the Battle of Calabria (AKA Battle of Punto Stilo) and Operation Halberd during the Second World War and was sunk in Naples by bombers of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) on December 4, 1942. Although salvaged after the war, she was damaged beyond repair and was scrapped.
