Circular medal in silver, obverse bear the left facing head portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II and “VITTORIO EMANUELE II RE D’ITALIA” (VITTORIO EMANUELE II KING OF ITALY) with the maker mark “CANZANI” at the bottom of the portrait neck, the reverse centre bears a crowned woman figure holding a spear and shield and is inscribed with “GUERRE PER L’ INDIPENDENZA E L’UNITA D’ITALIA” (WARS FOR INDEPENDENCE AND UNITY OF ITALY), measuring 31.84 mm (w) x 37.77 mm (h), on a green, white and red striped ribbon. Accompanied by an 1866 clasp with laurel design, very fine.
