Italy, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown, Grand Cross Star, by Cravanzola, Roma
(Ordine della Corona d'Italia). Instituted as a national order in 1866 by King Vittorio Emanuele II. In silver, a lovely eight armed star with clusters of seven alternating smooth and faceted rays each with a ball finial, the obverse medallion in Gold, features a central Lombardy crown on a blue enamel field, surrounded by a white enamel ring VICT. EMMAN. II. REX. ITALIAE. MDCCCLXVI., a black enamelled crowned eagle on the 12 o’clock arm, the reverse presents a single pin assembly, with a markers cartouche of D. CRAVANZOLA SUCCI FLLI BORANI ROMA, measures 80.6mm (w) x 80.1mm (h), weighs 63.9 grams, the superimposed bird is missing a wing and a foot, otherwise enamels are intact, hinge and pin functional, remains in better than very fine condition.
