Italy, Facist State. A 7th Regiment Bersaglieri Officer's Visor Cap, c.1940
This fine quality cap is fabricated from a khaki-gray wool, featuring a classic high peak that rapidly slopes towards the rear, the outer edge rigidly framed. It has three rows of gold braid banding around its circumference, two thin ones above a very wide band, fronted by a large 7th Regiment Bersaglieri cap badge, the badge fabricated from gold-coloured bullion wire interlaced with gold-coloured sequins, a domed black felt background behind the "7", the flames above well-padded, all on a gray wool base. The visor is black vulcanfibre on a wooden frame, with two thin black patent leather straps with loops creating the chinstrap, resting upon the visor, secured on both sides by original bronze buttons with the Bersaglieri insignia. Inside, the 52 mm wide brown leather sweatband is stitched together at the rear where the two ends meet. The side walls and dome are lined in a pearl white rayon, with a "UNIONE MILITARE ROMA" (Union Military Rome) insignia screen-printed in red and navy blue inks in the dome's centre. Overall, it measures 255 mm x 260 mm x 140 mm in height. The exterior has experienced light soiling on the wool fabric and cracking in the chin strap, with sticker residue on the underside of the visor, while the dome exhibits sweat staining and the sweatband has mold spots. However, it continues to exhibit smooth quality in the wool, plus quality workmanship, maintaining its original period look, Fine.
