Italy, Kingdom. A 68th Infantry Regiment "Legnano" Pennant, c.1935
(68º Fanteria). Obverse illustrating an eagle with a large shield on its chest in the centre in black, red and brown embroidery, along with fine gold-coloured bullion wire, with white threading giving definition to the wings, the eagle surmounted by the Royal crown in gold-coloured bullion wire in various textures and interlaced with gold-coloured sequins, with red embroidery in the voided and open area of the crown, with touches of red and green embroidery in the base of the crown, on an azure blue rayon field. Reverse illustrating the 68th Infantry Regiment in the centre, the regimental designation "68" in black embroidery on a yellow embroidered circle, the outline of the circle and the crossed rifles in gold-coloured bullion wire in various textures, the insignia surmounted by the Royal crown in gold-coloured bullion wire in various textures and interlaced with gold-coloured sequins, the four perimeter sides of the pennant with a 30 mm wide azure blue and black embroidered stripe, bordered by a thin strand of copper-coloured wire on the inside portion and a wide strand of copper-coloured wire interlaced with white threading on the outside portion, all four sides of the azure blue and black stripe bearing a shield in red and white embroidery in the centre, with fasces in all four corners in silvered and gold-coloured bullion wire, with a design in silvered bullion wire between each of the four fasces, on a maroon rayon field. It is finished with a 33 mm long fringe in twisted gold-coloured bullion wire on both sides and along the bottom edge, the pennant measuring 280 mm (w) x 260 mm (h), exhibiting light soiling overall, with minimal fraying in the bullion wire. Very fine.
