What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Italy, Kingdom. An Air Force Academy Cadet’s Dress Dagger

An Italian Air Force Academy cadet’s dress dagger, measuring 350 mm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 215 mm-long polished magnetic steel blade with a blunted tip and unspoiled edges. The blade presents plain with the exception of a stamped number “1635” on the reverse ricasso. It sits within an unofficial crossguard consisting of a pair of double-sided wings, with the centre of each side overlaid by a raised and interwoven rope. It connects to a multi-piece bronze hilt, with a handle grip comprised of two strips of mother of pearl. It completes with a pommel in the form of a finely-detailed, double-sided, crowned eagle’s head, securely screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its period original scabbard, constructed of a bronze shaft bearing a raised eagle and floral designs on the obverse. Emanating from the upper third of the shaft are dual integral loops for the accommodation of a dagger hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch, securely holding the dagger in place during storage. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include oxidation and running marks to the blade, significant loosening of the hilt and its fixtures, chips and cracks to the mother of pearl, and consistent loss of finish to the bronze features. It is in an overall fair condition.
